  • It's been a crazy busy last couple of weeks, but it's time for an update!

Thanksgiving Break was AMAZING! I was able to get out of school at 11am on Tuesday, so Kenton and I were on the road before noon. It was so nice to be traveling in lighter traffic and to get to my house before midnight! Tuesday night we hung out with Tim and my parents for a bit, but then just crashed. Wednesday we went to see Justin and Erin Crown's new baby boy, Seth William James. Then we headed up to Phil and Jen's to hang out with them before they headed to KY. From there we headed up to Grant to hang out with Kenton's family. We played Wii and hung out with our new niece, Allie! Thursday was Thanksgiving at Kramers. It was such a special time with family, as Great Grandpa Buckwald has ACCEPTED CHRIST! He shared with us that day and it was such an amazing experience. The whole day was extra special because of that. Friday was the Carter Family Thanksgiving where we ate good food, played Wii, rode the 4-wheeler, and just hung out. Then Friday night we headed back to my parents and spent Saturday decorating for Christmas and visiting Laurel. We left at about 7:30am from Portage on Sunday and got back in VA at about 9:30pm...yuck. All in all, it was an awesome break!

Mom Carter also came back with us from break! She spent Monday and Tuesday with us. Tuesday she came into my classroom to meet the kiddos and read to them. Then I left with them at lunch and we went up into Washington Monument! It was VERY cool! Granny also came and joined us on Tuesday evening and it was so much fun to hang out with them. Then they left Wednesday morning for New Jersey to visit family.

Then this past weekend Kenton and I watched the boys again. It's earlier than is usually scheduled, but we wanted to get it out of the way with so many special Christmas things going on during December weekends. The weekend went well, and I was thankful when it was over!

I started tutoring a 4th grader this week to help her out with math. I love one-on-one interaction when I can really teach them in their learning styles and help them out with specific needs. I really enjoy working with this student as well. I'm also thankful for the little bit of extra money!

This weekend we're going to our church's Christmas program on Friday night, going shopping for clothes for my Christmas present on Saturday, and then probably exchanging gifts at the National Tree on Sunday! I'm SO looking forward to this weekend!

I think that's pretty much an update from us. We can't WAIT to head back to MI in less than 2 weeks!

Have a great rest of the week!

  • Another weekend come and gone! Kenton and I worked this weekend, which is a bummer come Monday morning when we don't feel like we had a break...but sure is nice 2 weeks later when we get 2 hefty paychecks! And, it's our traditional "reward" for ourselves to go out to eat on Sunday night after we work, and tonight was no different. Kenton had gone to get his hair cut earlier this week (the first time since the wedding...it looks great!) and had seen a Ruby Tuesday down the way from our house. So, we checked it out tonight and it was SO delicious! I sure do love spending time with my husband!

And, even though we worked this weekend, this week certainly won't be too exhausting! Monday and Tuesday we have teacher work days at school. Our school is trying to get accredited through ACSI, so we're working on Curriculum Guides. It's not exactly super exciting stuff, but it will be nice to not have 20 kiddos to be in charge of and to be in jeans for the next 2 days. AND, they said that if we don't take a lunch break on Tuesday we can leave at 1:00...YES! So, Kenton and I will hopefully be on the road by (or before) 2:00!! Woo-hoo! We'll miss the rush hour traffic and will hopefully make it into Portage by 1:00am-ish. I CANNOT WAIT TO GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Whenever Kenton and I work, we have LOTS of time to talk. There's lots of just sitting...and watching...and the boys don't talk...so we get to talk a lot! This weekend we talked a lot about our future plans, and all the big dreams we have...ha. I figured it'd be fun to write some of these down and go back and read someday! Some of the things we talked about are...moving to MI (we sure do miss our families), getting a house with some property, getting a dog, getting an ATV, and......winning a million dollars. Haha...well I'm pretty sure that last one won't happen, but I told you these were dreams, right?! Having kids will come along eventually, too...hopefully a few years down the road, though! I am thankful for where we are right now, but I'm definitely excited to see where the Lord will continue to lead!

As far right now, I know he's leading us to spend some quality time with our families this week...and I am definitely looking forward to that.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

  • Hmmm...what to update on?

The weekend was wonderful, as usual. On Saturday Kenton and I slept in and then headed out for some shopping adventures. We had been collecting Christmas suggestions from our families and we had the ads and coupons we needed. We got a LOT done and I was excited with the purchases we made! We also got an oil change in my car (the first time I've EVER gone to a shop...sorry Dad...we just don't have the resources down here...haha) and went to church in the evening as well. We also did shopping for our Operation Christmas Child shoebox, and ended up buying WAY more than what would fit in it...haha. it was a lot of fun, though!

Sunday, we slept a whole bunch, went for a long walk, and watched football. It was so nice to just relax. It's amazing how extreme opposites our weeks are compared to our weekends. I'm SO thankful to have those restful weekends!

This weekend we'll be watching the boys, so it won't be quite as restful. The extra money will be nice to have in time for lots of traveling home and more Christmas presents! Then on Monday and Tuesday I won't have any students because we're having two teacher in-service days! Then the rest of the week is OFF FOR THANKSGIVING!!! Kenton and I will hopefully be leaving right after school on Tuesday and heading to MI! It's the longest either of us has gone without being home and we are SO EXCITED! It's also the first time to just hang out with our families as a married couple. :) I just can't wait to be back in the great state of Michigan with so many people I love so much!

Other than that, school is going really well. I really enjoy my class and I'm able to have lots of fun with them. I did have a little break down on Friday, but I got over it and today was much better.

    Hope everyone is doing well!

  • Oh what an interesting start to the week!

So, last Thursday I took a day off because of having an awful cold. I was able to come back Friday and make it through our fun Fall Festival Day, and then enjoyed a nice, relaxing weekend. I expected to be perfectly fine for this week.

Well...yesterday morning I came to school feeling fine but was VERY tired. I got through the morning with reading groups and such, and then my assistant, Barb, took them out to recess for a 1/2 hour and then she took them right to Spanish for a 1/2 hour. Monday is one of my favorite schedule days because of the long break in the morning. During that time, I rested my head on my desk and fell asleep! It was only about 10 minutes but it definitely surprised me. I pretty much just relaxed during that break and tried to eat some crackers and drink some water because I was feeling very shaky and possibly hungry. But, I was nauseous as well which made it difficult to want to eat.

The kids came back and we continued on through some more subjects, but I taught as much as possible sitting from my chair because I was still so tired. By the end of our math lesson, right before lunch, I was BURNING up and was VERY nauseous! I ran to the DVD player, telling the kids that I didn't feel well and that I would be right back. I frantically pressed play and headed for the door. But...I didn't make it. Thankfully there's a trash can right there and I DID make it into the trash can. So, now I have 20 first graders who are scared out of their minds because they just saw their teacher throw up...and it wasn't just once. They were SILENT.

I called for my "helper" to take a buddy down to the office (and to bring me a tissue) and they came back quickly with one of the secretaries. I then proceeded to walk down to the teacher's lounge to get to the bathroom, but was stumbling my way down to the point that one of the maintenance men had to guide me down and sit me in a chair with the trash can in front of me. The other secretary took my temperature (no fever) and then called Kenton and asked him to come pick me up. I laid in the "nurse's office bed" for a while until I knew that Kenton would be close and I had to come down and make sub plans for the afternoon. We left my car here and I went home and slept until 5pm. I was still feeling pretty weak last night but felt well enough this morning to come in. I did get really dizzy in the shower this morning and dry heaved a bit...but felt better after that. (TMI?)

So I came in to school this morning and all of my co-workers had SOMETHING on their minds...can you guess what it was? Crackers and water on my desk, throwing up then feeling fine, no fever, extreme exhaustion, nausea...yes...I came in this morning with everyone thinking I am PREGNANT. Kenton and I discussed that option last night, but had ruled it out. But with everyone talking about it today, we decided to OFFICIALLY rule it out...and it is indeed a NEGATIVE. But, I'm still dealing with the "Are you feeling okay?" "Maybe you shouldn't be doing that in your condition!" jokes! HA! What a memory...

  • Monday came far too soon this week...

I had a wonderful weekend including a local high school football game, sleeping in, lunch with friends, grocery shopping, church, relaxing and watching football, and a date with my husband to Macaroni Grille. I was NOT ready to wake up early this morning and be here at school all day. Thankfully, the day is almost over and my evening will be much more fun...Subway for dinner and Home Group tonight!

Here at school we have chapel once a week and each one of the teachers is required to teach once a year. Mine is this Wednesday. I spent a couple hours preparing on Sunday, and am praying that I will be prepared and that these 150 K-5th grade hearts will be prepared as well. I would really appreciate if you would say a little prayer for me sometime before Wednesday at 10:25. Thanks.

The weather today is beautiful. I LOVE fall. It's about 63 and sunny with a cool breeze. Ahhh...I wish it was like this year round.

I am counting down the DAYS until Thanksgiving. I'm missing my family SO INCREDIBLY much. I hate being so far away and not getting to chat with them as much as I would like. The thought of walking into Uncle Jim and Aunt Paula's house on Thanksgiving Day and seeing so many people that I love so much gives me SO much joy. And, we really haven't had much quality time with them since K and I were married (except for our awesome time with the cousins at Cville). At the wedding we were obviously all together, but busy running around and talking to people. I just can't wait to catch up. PLEASE COME SOON, THANKSGIVING!

Alright, time to go. Have a great week!
